All our tour guides
have an academic background, mainly in archaeology and history of
architecture. They are all experienced lecturers with an in-depth
knowledge of the areas we visit. They are fluent in English,
well-mannered, flexible, and responsible, and all of them are
officially certified by Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism as
professional tour guides.
UMIT ISIN
Born in Ankara in
1963, he graduated from the university of Ankara, History, Geography
and Languages Department as a Classical Archaeologist. As a
specialist in ancient geography and architecture, he has worked on
several excavations and survey research programs through 1983 to
present. The sights that he has worked on are: Caunos, Arykanda,
Elazig Habibusagi Mound, Lykia and Pisidia Surveys. He has been an
active guide since 1987. He is specialized on a archaeology, ancient
and modern geographical history, walking tours, 4x4 adventure tours,
and dirt-bike tours. Umit has founded Equinox Travel in 1996 and
working with great dedication in Turkey since then. His extensive
knowledge of his country, his expertise in its fascinating
archaeological heritage, and his wonderful personality make him an
ideal trip leader. Umit Isin is the author of Turkey Guide:
Confluence of Civilizations, written for the Ministry of Culture and
Tourism.
CEYLAN ZERE
Being born and raised in Istanbul, Ceylan is a
true observer of her native city. After one year in York,
Pennsylvania as an exchange student, she came back to Turkey to
study Aerospace Engineering which was her childhood dream. However,
her passion for her country and culture made her study its history
in detail. She is leading trips to archaeological sites along the
Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey and Central Anatolia, as
well as Gulet cruises including Dodecanese (Greek) Islands. Ceylan
is also leading private walks in Istanbul with in-depth lectures on
specific areas. Ceylan is the co-author of Turkey Guide:
Confluence of Civilizations.
TOLGA KIRILEN
Born in Giresun on
the Black Coast, Tolga graduated from the University of Ankara,
History, Geography and Languages Department as a Classical
Archaeologist. As a specialist in ancient geography and
architecture, he has worked on several excavations and survey
research programs through 1991 to present. The sights that he has
worked on are : Caunos, Arykanda, Aphrodisias, Magnesia on the
Meander and Olympos. He has been an active guide since 1994.
He is specialized on archaeology, ancient and modern geographical
history, Eastern Turkey, Religious Heritage Tours and Biblical
Tours.
SALIH ONGUN
Salih Ongun was born on the Levant coast of
Turkey in 1970. He is of nomadic background. He has a degree in
philology. He did a post graduation work on Arab historians of the
crusades. He is obsessed with Byzantine art and he is hoping to
further his studies on the subject. He speaks English, Italian and
some Swedish. He has Karamanid and Latin language skills. He has
attended various workshops and seminars on ecology and is very much
interested in the flora and fauna of his country. He is doing
volunteer work to help keep the already diminished bezoars ibex
population roaming free on the Taurus range. He is into trekking,
riding, cycling, kayaking and bird watching and off-road driving. He
likes to cook and try out his daring cocktails, loves to read and
collects old prints. He has a modest collection of lithographs and
old nomadic kilims. He is very much interested in geopolitics as a
hobby.
